The Friends of the CEGES/SOMA

In 1991, the Scientific Committee of the Centre for Research and Studies on the History of the Second World War decided to create a non-profit-organisation, the “Friends of the Centre for Research and Studies on the History of the Second World War”. The organisation has now more than 150 members. In 1997, to conform to the new name of the Centre, it changed its own name to “The Friends of the CEGES/SOMA”.

 

Presentation of the book “Je serai fusillé demain. Les dernières lettres des patriotes belges et français fusillés par l’occupant, 1914-1918”

On Tuesday 24 January 2012 at 2 p.m., in the conference room of the CEGES/SOMA, historians Laurence van Ypersele and Emmanuel Debruyne will present their recent book on farewell letters of Belgians and Frenchmen executed by the occupier in 1914-1918. Its objectives

Its objectives are :

  • To promote the activities of the Centre with every possible means related to its subjects of research;

  • To stimulate the public interest in the Centre in particular and in the Second World War in general.

Zélateurs et stipendiés des nazis en Fagne et Thiérache

Depuis sa création en 1991, l'asbl Les amis du CEGES a toujours accordé un soin particulier à recueillir auprès de ses membres des témoignages révélateurs de cette période troublée. Le livre de Marcel Franckson, Zélateurs & stipendiés des nazis en Fagne & Thiérache. Dissection psycho-sociologique sur le terrain, 1943-1944, publié en ce début 2009, s'inscrit dans cette ligne. Œuvre d'un témoin privilégié du dernier conflit mondial, il est à la fois le reflet du vécu d'un homme qui a ressenti les évènements dans sa chair et le fruit d'une analyse basée sur des documents et témoignages d'époque.

In 1995, the “Friends of the Centre for Research and Studies on the History of the Second World War” organised a competition on the theme of unpublished, non-fictional war stories. The six winning stories have been collected in this volume. This richly illustrated volume will offer the reader some fascinating reading material.
