The Cahiers d'Histoire du Temps présent
The Cahiers d'Histoire du Temps présent/Bijdragen tot de Eigentijdse Geschiedenis (CHTP/BEG) are an illustrated journal focusing on the history of Belgium in the twentieth century, in particular on the two World Wars, the political and cultural history and on the historiographical debate. As a scientific journal, the CHTP/BEG reserves a fundamental role for photographic illustrations, which are considered an essential part of the documentary and archive collections.
The journal publishes articles in French, Dutch and English. Since 1996, it is published twice yearly and runs to approximately 300 to 400 pages. Some issues are devoted to the exploration of a particular theme. Its editorial committee consists of researchers of the CEGES/SOMA as well as external researchers. Each issue contains an important section “Library” with reviews of scientific publications related to the history of Belgium.
The journal is a member of the Association des Revues scientifiques et culturelles. Its articles are summarized and reviewed in Historical Abstracts and America : History and Life.
The 20th issue of the CHTP-BEG !
The Cahiers d'Histoire du Temps présent / Bijdragen tot de Eigentijdse Geschiedenis were first published in their present form in 1996 and the current issue is N° 20 in the series. It is dedicated to a number of essential themes that transcend the Belgian context in strictu senso: the behaviour of societies at the end of a war, survival strategies, education as a factor of social pacification and the elaboration of international political strategies. This edition is undoubtedly an important and comprehensive publication, the result of a real dynamics of contemporary historians. It contains five articles, two chronicles, a column “Image” and “Library”. |
The CHTP-BEG onlineA historical journal exists through its visibility and its readers. This is increasingly the case by a certain presence on the internet and by publishing more and more articles in English. The editorial committee of the CHTP-BEG however adopts a cautious attitude and feels that a paper version of the journal is as yet indispensable and fulfills a social purpose. Nevertheless, we have decided to put the previous issues of the journal online thus assuring a wider accessibility.Contemporary history in Belgium suffers from a lack of international visibility that is not entirely due to a lack of interest for the history of a “small” country. If you wish to read a previous issue or a specific article, it is now possible. Read more... |
