Exhibitions

The Centre has organised exhibitions on different themes. It is possible, subject to certain conditions, to rent this material:

"The Spanish Civil War. Posters and caricatures"

Poster (Spanish Civil War)

Seventy panels composed of well-known and lesser known posters and comic drawings provide a lively image of the intense combat fought between the respective propaganda machines during one of the most dramatic events of the inter-war period.

Poster (Daily life)

"1940-1945. Daily life in Belgium"

These 300 panels of photographs formed the successful exhibition on daily life in Belgium during the Occupation and the Liberation.

"Red Fear"

Poster (Red Fear)

About sixty panels displaying carefully selected documents provide a surprising image of anticommunism in Belgium. This exhibition was realized in collaboration with the Centre for History and Sociology of the Left of Brussels Free University. It was displayed for the first time in 1996.

"Women and War" Poster (Women and War)

This bilingual exhibition opened in 1997 in the State Archives (the text on the panels as well as the video tapes and sound documents are in French and in Dutch) and outline the position of women during European wars from the fifteenth to the twentieth century. Among other issues it raises the question of how five centuries of participation in armed conflict has affected women's liberation.
