Belgian Railways under Occupation: between Collaboration and Resistance

Temporary exhibition - from September 26, 2025, to June 28, 2026

On 25 September, the temporary exhibition ‘Belgian Railways under Occupation: between Collaboration and Resistance’ has open at Train World in Schaerbeek.

This exhibition is part of the NMBS/SNCB's remembrance activities and is based on research carried out by CegeSoma  at the request of the Belgian government on the role of the Belgian railways during World War II.  Nico Wouters, curator of the exhibition, published a book (in Dutch and French) on the subject in 2024 : ‘Belgian railways under occupation. The SNCB confronts its wartime past: between collaboration and resistance’. In it, he analyzes the Belgian railway company's policy of cooperation, without shying away from any thorny issues. The history of the NMBS/SNCB during this complex period is full of contradictions, between collaboration and resistance. This dilemma remains relevant today. How far can we go in making compromises with a dictatorship in order to serve the public interest? When and how is it better to resist?

Come visit this exhibition. It is open every day except Monday. You will find all the necessary information (tickets, etc.) by clicking on the following link: https://trainworld.be/en/expo/40-45/
